Inverted eyelashes are believed to be caused by poor development of fibers that support the lashes in an outward direction.
It is reported that about 50% of inverted eyelashes in children are present at birth.

What is an Entropion/Epiblepharon?

Entropion/Epiblepharon is a condition in which the lashes are oriented toward the eyeball and make contact with the eyeball, causing a scratch and various symptoms.

Surgical treatment

The skin near the eyelashes is incised and sutured internally to exfoliate the eyelashes. After surgery, the incision wound becomes a double eyelid.
